Xanthorhiza simplicissima
Yellow-root

Brownish purple and star-shaped, the ¼" polygamous flowers are borne in 3-4" racemose panicles before the leaves in late April or early May. They are comprised of 5 petal-like brownish purple sepals with a yellow center. Although interesting when view up close, they fail to add much interest from a distance.
