Viburnum rhytidophyllum
Leatherleaf viburnum

While young, the stems are brown turning grayish-brown and pubescent, but turn glabrous with maturity. The stems of this species are brown in color as compared to the more stout gray or gray-brown young stems of Viburnum x rhytidophylloides.
