Viburnum lentago

Viburnum lentago
Nannyberry viburnum

Culture: [ITALIC] This adaptable species transplants easily and is tolerates a wide range of conditions including moist to dry, full sun to shade and is pH adaptable. While it tolerates shade, it performs best in a sunny site with good air movement to lessen the powdery mildew.

Powdery mildew, especially late in the season, is a common problem, especially when the plant is shaded or if air movement is restricted. The mildew is considered a nuisance and is not life threatening. There are no other serious disease problems.

Usage: Well suited to naturalizing, the Nannyberry viburnum usually suckers to form a thicket. It can be used to create a backdrop or a screen, or can be used in the shrub border. Birds are attracted to the fruits. Only a few cultivars are available, including 'Pink Beauty', which has pink fruits that later turn violet.
