Taxus cuspidata
Japanese yew

Flat and needle-like with an abrupt point, the evergreen foliage is 1/2 - 1" long and dark shiny green above and dull light green below divided by a dark green midrib. The needles are borne on short green turning yellowish brown petioles and are arranged mostly radially but also occur in irregularly 2-ranked planes. Foliage near branch tips is more radially borne. Compared to Taxus x media, the leaves on this species are more frequently radially borne as compared to the mostly 2-ranked leaves on the Anglojap yew.
