Smooth sumac

This common roadside companion is known for its early-to-develop bright red fall color and ability to survive in poor sites.

Habit:A leggy suckering shrub that continues to broaden over time forming extremely large thickets
Size:8-15' high when cultivated but much shorter along poor roadside sites
Color:Dark green
Texture:Medium in summer becoming coarse in winter
Hardiness:Zone 3a USDA
Habitat:A common US and Canadian native, it occurs most frequently from Maine - Florida - Texas - Manitoba, plus scattered locations from Arizona - British Columbia
