Rhus aromatica
Fragrant sumac

The alternate trifoliate leaves have ovate to sometimes obovate, 1 to 3" long incised leaflets with a crenate-serrate margin and slightly pubescent surfaces. The terminal leaflet is frequently obovate and larger than the two laterals. Apices are acute while the bases vary from cuneate to rounded. A strong disagreeable odor is emitted when they are handled.
