Quercus phellos
Willow oak

Imbricate, broadly conical and 1/8 to 1/4" long, the buds are sharp-pointed and have scales that are tan-brown at the base in early fall with brown and slightly hairy margins. Later in the fall, the entire bud turns brown to slightly reddish brown.
