Quercus macrocarpa
Bur oak

Alternate, simple and obovate, the large and coarse leaves of this species are 5 to 10" long and often fiddle shaped due to a deep middle sinus. More highly variable in shape than those of other oaks, the lobes of this species are rounded with varying depths of the sinuses. They have a short petiole and the bases are wedge-shaped. The upper leaf surface is glossy and dark green while the bottom is lightly pubescent.
