Prunus serotina
Black cherry

Slightly fragrant and moderately showy in effect, the small, white, 1/3"-diameter flowers are borne in pendulous 4-6" racemes in mid to late May. Each flower is composed of 5 obovate petals connected together at their base in a hypanthium, a structure common to the rose family.
