Pinus nigra
Austrian pine

Borne in fascicles of 2, the 4-6" evergreen needles are very stout, stiff and sharp-pointed at their apex. The needles are finely serrated and have white turning to gray-brown 1/2"-long persistent leaf sheaths. The needles do not break when bent sharply, unless extremely cold, as they do in Pinus resinosa.
