Pieris japonica
Japanese pieris

The reddish brown flower buds are formed in summer, appearing on long narrow panicles. The individual buds are ovate, 5-sided and 1/8" long. Winter injury in cold climates may cause buds to brown and fall during the winter. The 1/8" vegetative buds are ovate in shape with a rounded apex, imbricate and reddish brown.
