Lonicera sempervirens
Trumpet honeysuckle

The dark blue-green leaves are opposite, simple, elliptic or ovate, 1 to 3" long and entire. New leaves early in the season are quite narrow, while those formed later are a broader ovate. The leaf bases nearest the stem tips are connate-perfoliate, that is their bases are fused together with the stem running through the center. They emerge early in the spring. In the Midwest, the leaves are deciduous, but they can be semi-evergreen in much warmer climates.
