Lindera benzoin

Lindera benzoin
Spicebush

Often superimposed or even clustered at the nodes, the small, slightly stalked flower buds are bulbous-ovate and greenish brown turning brown with a bit of a light colored tip to the scales. The clustered condition of the buds is due primarily to the presence of multiple flower buds. The vegetative buds are smaller and narrower. The imbricate buds have only 2 or 3 scales.
