Juglans cinerea
Butternut

Naked, foliose and curved, the yellowish gray to tan buds are downy and blunt-tipped. The terminal buds are 2/5-3/5" long whereas the lateral buds are less than 1/4" long and ovate with a rounded apex. Above the axillary bud there are typically 1-3 other superimposed buds.

The flower buds are ovate with a highly imbricate scale pattern.
