Eucommia ulmoides
Hardy rubber tree

The greenish brown stems turn to reddish brown as they mature. They are moderately thick with a slight bloom and have a semi-circular leaf scar. A distinctive identification characteristic is the lack of a noticeable terminal bud. In reality, a very small lateral bud is sometimes embedded near the apex, but in winter the stems appear to terminate without a bud.
