Cornus kousa
Kousa dogwood

Culture: Kousa Dogwood grows best on acid soils that are well drained and sunny sites are preferred. Transplants best in youth.

The few pest problems that occur on Kousa Dogwood are usually not serious. It has been reported to show variable resistance to the Discula canker that more seriously affects Cornus florida.

Usage: Kousa dogwood is a beautiful small specimen tree that is easy to incorporate into any landscape. The horizontal lines created by the branching structure are similar to those of the flowering dogwood. Although this species is considered slightly more cold hardy than the flowering dogwood, it is still not hardy in the Chicago area.
