Clethra alnifolia
Summersweet clethra

Culture: Growing naturally in wet soils, this species prefers acid soils, full sun to partial shade, and is salt tolerant and easy to grow. It will tolerate moderate amounts of shade, but at the expense of some flowering. Adequate moisture is essential for this species to thrive.

Summersweet clethra usually has few insect and disease problems.

Usage: A worthy addition to the shrub border that is best used where viewers can get close enough to enjoy the fragrance of the flowers. It is quite effective when used in masses.
