Chionanthus virginicus
White fringetree

Ranging from green-brown to brown, the decurrently ridged stems are 4-sided with prominent raised tan-brown lenticels and are widened at the nodes. The stem pubescence varies from glabrous to tomentose. The younger stems often exhibit an "onion-skin" effect, with the epidermis peeling off slightly.
