Cercis canadensis
Eastern redbud

Often superimposed, the dark purplish red buds are 1/8 to 3/16" long, narrow ovate to slightly obovate and imbricate. The flower buds are larger, 3/16 to 1/4" long, more rounded, and appear clustered at nodes, sometimes even clustered on the trunk itself.
