| Cedrus atlantica Atlas cedarCulture: This species prefers acid, well-drained soils, although it is tolerant of slightly alkaline conditions. Cedars in general need protection from strong winds, but this species tolerates hot climates and smoke somewhat better than other cedars. Although few serious insect problems occur on this species, it can be troubled with tip blight and root rot. Storm damage that causes loss of major lateral limbs can occur as plants mature; however, some branch loss contributes to their beautiful character.Usage: The Atlas cedar makes a beautiful specimen for large spaces. |
