Aesculus parviflora
Bottlebrush buckeye

Appearing in July, the flowers rise above the foliage in white to slightly pinkish-white 8-12" panicles. Individual flowers are white with four 1/2-inch petals and long stamens that extend 1 to 1 1/2" beyond the petals, providing the brush-like appearance. The flowers of the variety serotina appear 2 or 3 weeks later and are borne in longer 18 to 30" panicles, the length of which often causes them to hang in a pendulous manner from the plants, creating a shaggy or cascading appearance.
